Music Video (Second Draft).

The video above shows the second draft for my music video. Unlike my first draft, this now includes footage of my actress during the chorus in which she is standing by a large metal bollard. Also after filming on 11/12/11, I used the list of improvements I made in a previous blog post when filming which helped to pin-point what needed to be changed from previous footage. An example is the long-shot from behind. I noted that this needed to be re-shot due to not being very fluid, so I filmed it again and it is much better, as can be seen in video above.

There are also some problems however with this, as I have a few more things to do before reaching the final version. I am not happy with the third chorus, as I don't like the mid-long shots of my actress strumming the guitar at the end of each line. Therefore I am going to change this for my next scheduled filming, as well as the shots of the carving on the wall which I have mentioned previously. Also I had problems uploading this video straight to YouTube as it kept telling me it was unable to be converted so instead I export the video from Final Cut Express, then place it into iMovie and place it onto YouTube from there.

Sunday 11th December 2011.

Today I continued filming for my music video after my actress was unable to make it for my last scheduled time (4/11/11). Today I took lots of footage, including all the shots needed for my chorus and the list of improvements I noted in my last blog post. This means that in tomorrow's lesson I will be able to create a second draft, which will include the chorus that I had shown through my animatic and also many other shots such as the carving of the heart into the wall. Mentioning this, a problem that I faced today was that while filming this aspect of my video, the battery of the camera died and I was unable to capture anymore. I managed to film what I needed, however when looking over what I had taken once I got home, I realised that the camera in the initial shot of the plain wall is in a different position to the shot of the heart with both initials inside it, meaning it will not look as good when I transition from the heart being there to it not as the camera will not be in the same position. I had hoped that today would be the last bits of footage that I would need to take, however looking over the footage I have taken I will have to arrange to do one more filming session after the Christmas holidays.

Filming Improvements.

I have decided that after editing and posting my rough cut and taking on board what went on during the filming for my music video on Sunday 27th November, there were some things that I had forgotten to do and that I need to re-do for when I film tomorrow (11/12/11) which I have organised by making a list:

Shots I still need to take:
  • Close up shot of the artist's face on the line, "And I can hardly wait to be with you again".
  • Close up shot of the artist's face on the line, "But your not really here, it's just.."
  • Close up shot - "Come back to me again and play your sad guitar".
Shots I need to re-take:
  • The tracking shot spinning around her, needs to be more stabilised.
  • Panning shot showing the radio then reveal her legs being tied to the chair, needs to be more stabilised.
  • Long shot from behind while panning more fluidly on the line, "Sweet and clear".
  • Close up/side shot of my artist to improve camera stabilisation on the line, "What to say, to make you come again".

Sunday 4th Decemeber 2011.

As part of my filming schedule, it was planned that I carry on filming for my music video today. This was planned to go ahead, however I received news from my actress that she is unable to film today due to family-related issues. Due to this, I have chosen to reschedule filming to the following Sunday (11/12/11). When filming last Sunday, I used the Canon (SLR) to capture the majority of footage inside my warehouse location. However another problem I am facing is that a Photography group are borrowing the Canon for the weekend in which I rescheduled to film, therefore I will have to use a different camera for the remainder of my filming. This is a problem as I am unsure whether the video quality of the Canon is similar to the quality of the video camera I will be using next Sunday. This will lead to half of my footage being in one quality and the other half being in another. As I am using a HD camera as a replacement for the Canon, I am hoping that due to them both being very good quality and use the same aspect ratio, the quality of footage should be unnoticeable when it comes to editing which will be seen when making my final draft.

Final Cut Express Problems.

Today while editing the second draft of my music video, I experienced some problems with Final Cut Express which almost lost all of the footage I had worked on and edited since I began editing. At some point, I must have accidentally closed my timeline and was unable to get it back. After a long time of trying to get it back, I managed to open it again after turning the computer off and on however when I did get it back all of the footage I had edited became one whole sequence, so I was unable to differentiate between shots. I have managed to cut a lot of the sequence up into individual clips again, however for the clips that included a transition it is much harder to split, so have left them for a later date.

Music Video (First Draft).

After filming some more this Sunday (27/11/11), I have edited together the footage I have taken to make a rough cut of my music video. This is all real footage unlike my test shoot that I posted last week, however as I have more filming to do there are some significant gaps in the rough cut as the chorus scenes are yet to be filmed. There are many improvements that I have to make which I will explain in a separate blog post, and I am hoping that by 04/12/11 all my filming should be done and another rough cut can be posted showing all of my footage together. Hopefully I will then be able to work on my final product by changing the lighting of the shots, adding/replacing certain shots, etc.

Sunday 27th November 2011.

Today I began filming for my real music video after my test shoot last week (20/12/11). I managed to film a large amount of footage, but have missed out large chunks of footage that are yet to be taken. The majority of footage I took today included the first and second verse of the song. This includes a lot of when my actress is sitting in the chair playing the guitar, and other aspects such as the shot that circles my actress and introduces her into to the second verse. Despite this, we did also face some problems which stopped us from getting more footage. The biggest problem we faced was that during filming shots for my music video, the battery of the camera ran out forcing us to carry on filming at a later date. Another big problem was that the memory became full halfway through filming a certain shot. This led to going over other clips which we had taken and deleting some that were not needed, wasting time in which we could have been filming and also wasting the battery life leading to it running out some time after. Me and my actress have next scheduled to film on the 4th December in which I hope to get the rest of my footage before the Christmas holidays.

Music Video (Test Shoot).

This shows the footage I took on the 20th November 2011 when filming my Test Shoot. I then edited the footage and put it in the style of how my real music video would be to get a feel for what the real one is going to look like. This gives me the opportunity to see if my narrative/themes/concept will come across well when making my final product. From watching this, I believe that my narrative is relatively easy to understand taking into consideration what it would look like once the footage from my chorus is present. I believe the idea that she has been tied up is very clear with the close-up shots and long shots all indicating that she is tied down to the chair. I don't believe the theme of betrayal is clear as of yet in the test shoot, however as I said earlier the footage that is taken during the chorus should hopefully help shows this more as there is where the 'ex-boyfriend' will feature the most.

Sunday 20th November 2011.

Today I visited my warehouse location to film a Test Shoot for my Music Video. This allowed me to get a feel for roughly how long the filming will take for the real thing, and any problems I may face so I can overcome them for the real thing. Once entering my location I determined which sector is the best to film in as it was rather large. I chose a corner in which thin branches from plants with leaves on them were hanging down from the roof. After setting up my props by choosing where my actress should sit, etc. I managed to film the majority of shots from that location however was unable to film them all (Partly the end shots of my actress running out of the warehouse) due to the battery of the camera running out. One thing I found difficult was going through my animatic and making sure I filmed all the shots I needed, as I sometimes forgot certain shots and had to do them at the end.

To improve this for next time, I am going to bring along my written storyboard so that I am able to tick off each shot after filming it. Another problem I faced was that I underestimated the length of time it would take to film in this location. I planned to also film some shots from what was my second location at Mudchute Farm, however I realised due to it getting dark so early I was unable to do so. I then came to the decision that as there are lots of trees and bushed just outside the warehouse, I will use that as my other location instead, making it more accessible leaving me more time to film. I planned with my actress and my friend who assisted me while I filmed that we film again next Sunday (27/11/11) and begin with filming my real footage taking on board the problems I faced today.

Prop & Location Information.

Props
Location
Guitar: She is seen playing it throughout the video but mainly in the abandoned house location.
Abandoned Warehouse: This is used in the majority of the video as she is sitting playing the guitar.
Radio: Used only at the end of the first verse when a radio is mentioned and it is beside her feet to reveal her being tied up.
Mudchute Farm: I am filming here as there are lots of trees, etc. which will be perfect for during the chorus.
Chair: Used in the majority of the shots when she is in the abandoned house playing the guitar and singing.
Update (20/11/11): I will no longer be using Mudchute Farm as my second location but the surroundings of the warehouse instead.
Rope: Used when shots show her full body or close ups of her leg to reveal shes tied down, and when it's dropped on the floor as she escapes at the end.
Surrounding the Warehouse: I am filming around here as there are lots of trees and bushes with a large open space for the shots during the chorus.

Prop Ideas.

These are ideas for props I am going to use in my music video. I will be using a regular guitar which my actress will play during sequences of my video, and have already arranged to borrow one from a friend. I will be using an old radio as the word radio is used in the lyrics of my chosen song and I believed it added more authenticity to my video by having it beside her as she performs and plays the guitar. I have already arranged to borrow an old radio from my Dad, as well as the rope and chair. I am using the rope as my actress is tied up as part of the video's narrative so this will be used to tie her to the chair. The chair will be used to have her sit down and play the guitar as well as be strapped down when filming the performance based aspects of my video.

This shows my filming schedule for my music video. On the 20th, I plan to film my Test Shoot which will give me a feel for what it will be like for the real thing. The 27th is the day in which I will begin my real filming at my Warehouse location and hopefully capture the majority of my footage there. On the 4th, I plan to carry on my filming and hopefully by this time I will have captured all of my footage so I am able to upload it and start editing it.

Update (04/12/11): My actress was unable to film on the 4th, so filming was rescheduled to the 11th.
Update (09/01/12): I have also scheduled to film on the 15th with my actor which should be the last day of filming.

Facebook: Filming Preparation.

This shows me preparing to film before I schedule exact times by asking my actress when the best time would be for her and when the best time is for me and working out a good arrangement. Also informing her of the locations we will be using and other important things that need to be considered when creating my music video so it all works out when it comes to filming. After seeing her in college I have found that due to us both being at college full-time, we are unable to film anytime during the week. I also found out that on Saturday mornings she has horse-riding lessons, so the only day of the week we are able to film are on Sunday mornings. My filming schedule will then reflect this as we have worked out an arrangement that both of us can go by taking into consideration when we are free.

Animatic Survey: Results.

The images above show the results to the survey I created based on the audience's view of my animatic. I asked questions based on their interpretation of my music video's narrative and if it was understandable, whether there was enough shots of my artist, etc. In general, the survey shows quite a positive reaction to my animatic and I was mainly successful in conveying what I wanted to convey. However there are still some small issues that the audience faced which I could correct when it comes to the production of my music video. One problem would be that 16% of the audience didn't fully understand my music video's narrative. Taking this on board, a way I am going to overcome this is by featuring some shots of the man such as a tracking shot of his feet or of him dragging the rope while she is tied up, to make it more clear that it is him that tied the artist up. This links to question 4 as somebody responded saying, 'You have her singing a lot, not much of a storyline.' By including the shots of the man like I just mentioned, this should improve that by adding to the storyline of the music video.

Animatic Survey.

Create your free online surveys with SurveyMonkey, the world's leading questionnaire tool.

I created this survey to see how my audience view my animatic in terms of the narrative, theme, pace of shots, locations and the amount of close-up shots there are of my artist. I will then collect all of the results, and if I am lacking in one of these areas, I will try to improve this when it comes to filming my music video such as including more shots of my artist or keeping the pace of my visuals more in time with the beat of my song.

Avatar Reference.

In my abandoned warehouse location, it can be seen by the images I posted and in my test shoot that there is an area in which long branches are hanging down. Once seeing this, it reminded me of the movie Avatar and the 'Tree of Souls', which also had branches that hang down and touch the floor. The tree has a very mysterious and eerie atmosphere in the movie, which is what I would like to portray of my location in my music video. This can be shown from the images below from the movie.

Final Location.

The images above show the warehouse location in which I will be shooting my music video. From looking at the previous post, I was intending on using the Drama Pod as my location due to not getting permission to use the other warehouse. However when talking to a friend who lives close to the place above, they mentioned it as a possible place to film. The reason I chose this place as my final location is because permission is not needed in order to access and use it, and also it is perfect for my idea I had of the artist being tied up in an abandoned location, which can be seen in my animatic. This location is actually a small walk down the road from the previous idea I had being the warehouse on Westferry Road, Isle of Dogs. To go with the first idea I had, the location I needed had to give off a very deserted and eerie feel. This location is perfect for that as it is clearly deserted and also has a very mysterious feel, especially the images showing the very thin branches hanging from the roof, which is the exact atmosphere I am looking for in a location.

As my narrative describes my actress's 'ex-boyfriend' tying her up and leaving her somewhere, this location is very good at showing that as it look very abandoned which represents my actress being abandoned and left on her own, and also reflects the abandonment the artist feels which can be told by the lyric, 'You said you'd be coming back this way again baby.' Therefore I have made the decision that I will be sticking with the concept that I created in my animatic and will not be using the idea of having her perform to an audience in the Drama Pod.

Facebook: Contacting My Actress.

This shows me contacting my actress via Facebook to set up a meeting and keep her up-to-date on the development of my music video. I have request to meet with her to tell her what song I will be doing, the potential locations I may be using so she can figure out where she has to travel, and the sort of acting style I would like her to show, which would reflect the slow pace and meaningfulness of the song. After meeting with her I was able to give her the URL to my blog so she is able to listen to the song I am using, as well as watch my animatic to get a rough idea of the types of shots I using and understand the narrative behind the song.

Second Potential Location Idea.

The images above show a second potential location idea that I may use for my music video. This is an unused warehouse that is close to were I live, and is located on Westferry Road, Isle of Dogs. I chose this as a potential location idea as it would be the perfect place for my first idea of having the artist tied to a chair and playing the guitar. This is because it looks very abandoned and mysterious just like the location used by Laura Marling in her video New Romantic, which is my inspiration for looking at this location. A problem I may face when it comes to using this location however is that permission has to be gained in order to use it, so I may not be able to use it if permission if not given. I have taken down the number of the company that owns it and will be contacting them to find out.

Update: Upon ringing the company, I was unable to gain permission to use the location.

Music Video: Idea 1 Inspiration.

The video above shows the music video for the song New Romantic by Laura Marling. This video inspired me because it reflects the type of location and shots that I would like to use for my first idea of having the artist tied up in a warehouse-like area. This song is similar to mine as it is also a Folk song, but it relies very much on the artists voice and guitar instead of incorporating lots of different instruments. Due to my song being under this Folk genre, I want it to follow the convention of the genre just like Laura's video by having it be quite raw and natural. This video by Laura Marling shows exactly this, which is why it inspired me when creating my music video. As I am thinking of using an abandoned area as my location, it can be told by watching Laura's video that it inspired me as she is sat in large empty room that also looks like it is abandoned. The type of shots used in this video also inspired me as there is a similarity between this video and the shots in my anamatic due to them both being very performance based with the artist sitting on a chair holding a guitar.

Location Email.

The image above shows me contacting the teacher that manages the use of the Drama Pod. I have asked him if I am able to take photos of how I would set the theatre up, and when I will be able to carry this out. This shows the steps I am taking in preparation of filming, so that I know exactly want I would want to do and can get straight to it if I was to run with my second idea of having her perform to an audience. Therefore no time will be wasted during the scheduled time that I will have to film, which means it will not take as long to get all of the filming done.

By Harry Luke Mulvany

Music Video: Idea 2 Inspiration.

The video above shows the music video to the song Maps by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. This video inspired me for my second idea of having the artist perform to an audience because of the location and shots that are used at the beginning when the band are on the stage, which is very similar to the Drama Pod location that I may be using. As a potential idea of mine is to film my music video there with the chairs all layed out, that shows a clear connection between those images that I took and this video. It inspired me to open my video with a panning shot starting at the doors of the Drama Pod, and slowly walking up to the artist who is sitting in a chair in front of the audience (who will be seated in the row of chairs) just like the in this video. This editing technique of walking right up to the stage inspired me to want to do the same, as it creates more of a natural and real feeling like it is the viewer that is walking to the stage and not a camera.
By Harry Luke Mulvany

Potential Location Idea.

These photos show one of the potential locations that I may use for my music video. This is the Drama Pod which is located in Bishop Challoner School. Contradictory to my animatic, this location would be perfect for the second idea I had for my music video by having her perform to an audience. The photos show lots of chairs set up in the middle of the theatre and a large black curtain in front of them. I would have my actress on a chair with a guitar performing in the view of the audience. This can be seen in the photos above with the spotlight showing where I will have my actress positioned. The larger bit of lighting signifies where the chairs will be postitioned so they can be seen when all the lights are down. The reason I took the images from the corner of the room is because at the beginning of my music video, an idea I have is to start the song by coming in through the doors of the Drama Pod, and slowly walk up to her as she is performing in the spotlight just as the song begins. I want to do this as it makes the performance feel more real as the shots are not constantly changing and taking away the rawness of a performance based video. Also it shows the video from the perspective of an audience member which links to the convention of folk videos by being very performance based.

Evaluation Of Planning.

Andrew Goodwin believed there were a number of key features that distinguish a music video as a whole. He believed that every music video will convey these key points as they are what make up a music video. One point explains that there should be some sort of relationship between the lyrics and the visuals. In my music video, looking at the animatic, there are a few points in which a relationship is shown between the two, but the majority shows no obvious relationship between them. An example of when there is a relationship would be when the lyric 'It's just the radio' is sung, and a shot of a radio is shown. Other than small links like this, there is no real connection. This is because my video is very performance based, so gives me less opportunity to show clear link between them like you would in a narrative based video.

Another point explains that there should be a relationship between the music and the visuals. This is much more obvious and clear in my video in comparison to lyrics and visuals, as the pace and beat of my song is kept very much in line with the shots I use. An example of when I have a connection between the music and the visuals is when I have short shots of her strumming the guitar when a guitar is being played. Another point explains that in particular genres they may have their own style and iconography which could be reflected when creating a music video in this genre. I believe my music video somewhat follows this pattern for the Folk genre as one of the many conventions of this genre is that it is very raw and stripped-down. In my video I have her simply sitting down in a chair in an abandoned location with hardly any props but a guitar, which shows my artist as raw and stripped-down like the conventions show.

He also explained that the record companies that manage the artist may demand to have many close-ups of them to raise awareness of them and help boost their popularity. This is certainly reflected in my music video as I have many close-ups of my artist, for example in the first verse when the line, 'Before the second show' is sung. Another point he made was that many artists develop their own iconpgraphy by using something over and over again in all of their videos. This obviously doesn't apply to my music video as my artist is unknown, so can only rely on the iconography of the genre itself, for example the fact that she is holding a guitar which is common in many Folk videos.

References to voyerism is another point that Goodwin made about what should be included in a music video. This also does not apply to my music video as I use no shots such as a screen within a screen, binoculars or a personal camera anywhere in my video. This is mainly because performance based videos do not use these sort of featres as they would be uncessecary, however narrative based videos are more likely to use them to fit in with whatever is happening in the video. Also it is not a convention of the Folk genre to really play up to the idea of Voyerism mainly because it looks into the artist themselves which is why so many videos are performance based instead of having a dominating storyline.

Finally, he believed that intertexual reference are an important part of a music video. This is not a huge part of my music video however there are some points in which intertexual references may be shown. This would be from the music video of Laura Marling that I posted earlier on my blog. Due to all the similar shots and location this may make my music video an intertexual reference to her video, but other than this there are not many clear references to other types of media except for my following of Folk conventions which would be shown in any other Folk music videos anyway.

Narrative Synopsis.

In my animatic, it opens with a woman running away from something. She is running past trees and as the intro ends she leans against a tree with a panicking look on her face. I have done this to make the audience think, 'What is she running from?'. Then throughout the song, she is shown playing a guitar in a warehouse/abounded area location. It is then reveal at the end of the first verse that her leg is strapped to the chair. This is when the audience will then begin to believe something is wrong. The chorus shows her beside a tree as she sings, and each sentence she sings ends with a shot of her and her 'boyfriend'. I have chose her to be beside the tree for a certain reason in the chorus, as once it ends, it cuts to her running again, and in the same shot she is running past the same tree. This may then lead the audience to believe it is something to do with her boyfriend of her relationship that she is running/tied to a chair, as it is made clear she is talking about her relationship. The second verse then goes back to her singing in the chair with some more shots of her being trapped, then back to the chorus again beside the tree to really make sure the audience understand that she is trapped and is worried about her relationship. Once the outro begins, she is seen dropping the rope that tied her to the chair and running towards a door, eventually bursting out to show her escaping. This should link in the audience's mind back to the beginning when she is running away, as it is a circular narrative and the beginning of the video was really the end of the narrative.

My Storyboard/Animatic.

Annotation of Lyrics.

These show the analysis of my lyrics. Upon developing the idea I had of my actress being tied up in my music video which I described in an earlier post, I created these before I start on my animatic so that the ideas written will reflect the concepts shown in my storyboard. I am doing this because it shows step-by-step the ideas I have for my music video and reflects the cinematography and editing that I would like to use when creating my final product. Even though my animatic will reflect the tied-to-a-chair idea, I have not yet ruled out the idea of having her perform to an audience. It will all depend on the type of locations I can find and the development of the ideas as to which one I decide to run with, however my favourite idea from the two is so far the tied up concept, which is why I am using that for my animatic.

By Harry Luke Mulvany

Moodboard of Ideas.

I created this moodboard to show the initial ideas I have for my music video. Themes I am thinking of include love and betrayal, which can be shown by the images of the heart carved in the tree reading 'I Love You', and the girl with her head in her hands looking distressed and upset. The ideas of possible locations include the image of a warehouse, the image of me (from last year's course) standing with a guitar by a tree in Epping Forest, and the image of a stage with a chair in the centre and a spotlight on it. The warehouse image reflects the first idea I had for my music video by having the artist tied up in a mysterious place, and the spotlight with a chair reflects the second idea I had of maybe having her perform to an audience. The ideas of characters I have include somebody simular to Florence + The Machine, or more feasibly Janet Devlin from The X Factor, which can both be shown by the images on my moodboard. This shows the type of character that I would like my actress to portray, being a girl that is pretty yet very innocent and natural looking.

The image in the top-right corner shows an image of my actual actress. She does not exactly fit in with the image of Florence or Janet with the light curly hair, however she is clearly very pretty and and has a look to her that is very natural. I have chosen not to use many props in my music video, so only one prop is present throughout my moodboard, that being a guitar. This is seen in many images including the image in the top-left showing a man playing the guitar, and the image in the bottom-right showing The Honey Tree's covering their version of 'Moon River'. The visual iconography that is shown through my initial ideas include the playing of a guitar, and the naturalism of the characters which I have both explained above. These reflect the genre of my song (Folk), as well as a 70's theme with an image of Nancy Sinatra performing and an image of Angelina Jolie in the movie 'Girl, Interrupted', which was set around that time. From this, I'm planning to create my synopsis and annotate the lyrics with potential filming ideas.
By Harry Luke Mulvany

Music Video Ideas.

The first idea I have about the concept of my video is to have my actress in a mysterious and eerie location, possibly a warehouse or somewhere abandoned. She is tied up by her 'ex-boyfriend' to a chair and left there. During the song she sits in the chair singing along with a guitar, but towards the end she manages to escape. It shows shots of her reminiscing the love she had with her boyfriend by using flashbacks of them together, which would then explain why she is saying that she loves him in the lyrics. It won't have a linear narrative so that it is more suggestive, therefore reflecting a convention of normal folk videos. Also the emptiness of the location would reflect the loneliness she feels at not having her boyfriend anymore. A long shot could be used on the line 'Loneliness is such a sad affair'.

A second idea I have avout the concept of my video is by having my actress performing the song in front of an audience, as if it was a live performance. I'd use a location that looks like somewhere that a singer would perform, somewhere with a stage or the possible use of a spotlight to give the impression of a performance. Could possibly use the portable spotlight that the Media department has to reflect this. This impression of a live performance reflects a convention of the folk genre as the majority of music videos are really performance based. Could also play around with it, for example having a shot of the audience in front of her, then slowly the camera goes around her and back to the same shot but this time the audience are not there. This would also be good on the line, 'Loneliness is such a sad affair'.

Music Video Notes.

These are some notes that I wrote when thinking of a song and a concept:

Skeeter Davis - The End Of The World:
A couple messing around with each other (preferably on a beach) flirting, doing what a couple do. They travel home all happy, but once they get inside they have a huge argument. The woman storms off crying into the bathroom or something, the man cries and eventually goes to find her. When he does, he finds that she is dead and she has hung herself. It ends with him crying his eyes out that she's dead with a shot of the rope or blood, etc. This is a link to the movie 'Girl Interrupted' as the song is played when a girl in the movie hangs herself in the bathroom.

Nancy Sinatra - Bang Bang:
Continuous filming with as little cuts as possible. When it ends, they stop moving/walking/riding, and it zooms out and shows them as small to show little importance. This is a link to the music video 'What's a Girl To Do?' by Bat 4 Lashes which also has a continuous shot of the main artist on a pedal bike.
Possibly walks to the place she was murdered then ends with her getting down to the place she was killed and lying there as if she was dead.

She is carrying a toy pistol. This links to the lyrics as it talks about her and her ex-lovers childhood and that he has left her all alone. (For example she could be completely alone in a forest and gives the impression that she may as well be dead for real because she loved him so much). Could also play around with a candy heart or something like that and it breaking to link to the childhood and her heart breaking.
